Many Australian workers know the name Bangalore. To many it stands for lost jobs that have been "offshored".
It is also the home of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium where the first Test is being played between Australia and India tomorrow, or today for those back home.
It will be Sourav Ganguly's last series, with the local press saying he was pushed and hasn't jumped, and there are rumours the captain, Anil Kumble is to follow.
Tomorrow's ground is where Viv Richards made his debut, along with Gordon Greenidge in the same Test. Greenidge making a century in the second innings.
Our own Michael "Pup" Clarke also scored a century on debut here, a dashing 151.
Of the three Tests the Aussies have had in this IT city, they have won two and drawn one, which might bode well for us, if we had a spinner...
Maybe the Aussies dine at Samarkand restaurant, which provided me with one of the best meals I've had in a long time!
Great food, great service and fantastic ambience. The only complaint would be the $15 I paid, which is high by Indian standards.
Doh, now I sound like those Poms that visit Oz and go on about how rich they are coz of the pound!
Anyways, check out the Dal Afghani (a wonderful black lentil vego dish) with the Khushka rice. Sensational!
It is a holiday today and apparently that's why it's so quiet. If you count the constant blaring of horns and insane traffic quiet. Can't wait to see what real traffic is like tomorrow!
On my train ride from Chennai this morning I passed massive gum tree plantations, which reminded me of the Andes where I freaked out when I saw some there too.
And what a train system they have here!
V/Line, you have a lot to learn my friends.
My ticket was booked and paid for online before I even left the 'Rat, I received a newspaper, bottle of water, some bsicuits and sweets, and my breakfast to top it all off.
All for the grand price of 500 rupees (about $17) for a distance of about half Melbourne to Adelaide.
Now I know why people complain about the trains in Victoria...
Oh, and Happy Dussehra everyone! And good luck to the Aussies tomorrow, I think they might need it...
