Storm brews with rickshaw driver, ends up cooked in the kitchen

Having just visited Humayun's Tomb in Delhi, which is the mausoleum model before the Taj Mahal, I caught a rickshaw to my cooking course.

We agreed the price of $1, but because I didn't know exactly where the place I wanted to go was he wanted double.

I advised him he could have $1 or nothing.

His pride almost got the better of him as he said $2 or nothing.

I walked, he called me back.

The look he gave me could've curdled milk, but if you agree a price you stick to it.

From the tone of his voice I thought I'd have to start swinging.

I then spent the next few hours cooking and eating parantha, dal makhni, paneer rolls (sensational!) and bharta.

Now I am tired, full as a goog and looking forward to my next rickshaw adventure...

Goodness me, you bargained hard and saved a dollar. Well done. You big Aussie king, you. You should feel ashamed. Aussie travellers like you surely give our country a bad name.

Chuckle, is that meant to make me feel bad? Bargaining is a way of life here mate. And if trying to learn some of the language, travelling alone, while respecting and indulging in the local culture is giving Aussie travellers a bad name then I am glad to be doing the job.

PS It wasn't about the money, it was the principal of trying to change a deal.

PPS A local would've got the same ride for $0.30.

Lucky you did save that dollar, otherwise the bharta might not have been as good. Hopefully the Indians throw a controversy your way and play Gambir, looking forward to the reaction. And come on Krejza! Hopefully he can turn it more than Whitey. It was bad enough having Katich as the best Aussie spinner ... oh how the mighty are falling. Catch you soon Polky. Go Saints!

Journey to the West
A long time ago Monkey followed a Buddhist priest, Tripitaka, from China to India in search of holy scriptures to save the world. Chairman Polky now heads to India in search of the same, and to watch a little cricket too...
