My Team: split round is complicated

IT'S complicated.

We have a split round, so there is a partial lock-out until the coming weekend's matches complete round 13 of AFL dream team competition.

What this means is the players who you selected, who have already played, well, you are stuck with those. Those whose AFL teams haven't played, you can still trade them but only for players in sides that haven't played yet.

You can do that with with captains and emergencies too. I told you it's complicated.

I can't afford too many more trades anyway. So it's back onto our good, bad and ugly duckling (you know, the unknown who will bloom into a beautiful swan in the second half of the season) for the second half of the alphabet.

MELBOURNE

GOOD: Jack Trengove ($284,300) - value has gone up $130,800 since the start of the year.

BAD: Jack Watts ($148,900) - Watt's his problem?

UGLY DUCKLING: Jordan Gysberts ($160,900) - Get in now. Beat the price rise.

NORTH MELBOURNE

GOOD: Brent Harvey ($333,900) - Some days are diamond...

BAD: Brent Harvey ($333,900) - some days are stone.

UGLY DUCKLING: Cruize Garlett ($252,800) - first rookie, then Rooster, now possible Roo-regular.

PORT ADELAIDE

GOOD: Kane Cornes ($407,400) - Pop Cornes.

BAD: Chad Cornes ($230,000 ) - Cornes flake.

UGLY DUCKLING: John Butcher ($129,500), Mitchell Banner ($129,300) - Children of the Cornes.

RICHMOND

GOOD: Jack Riewoldt ($395,300) - Jack of hearts.

BAD: Jake King ($223,500) - King of spades.

UGLY DUCKLING: Dustin Martin ($265,100) - Ace of club.

ST KILDA

GOOD: Brendon Goddard ($470,900) - Every team should have Goddard, Luke Hodge or both.

BAD: Zac Dawson ($167,500) - Too dour for dream team.

UGLY DUCKLING: James Gwilt ($262,200) - Not much to choose from but looks like returning to form.

SYDNEY

GOOD: Nick Malceski ($339,700) - Pre-season bargain, now a blue chip player.

BAD: Tadhg Kennelly ($226,600) - Pre-season bargain on paper, now less so.

UGLY DUCKLING: Patrick Veszpremi ($204,300) - Even better for Scrabble.

WEST COAST

GOOD: Beau Waters ($393,100) - Dream team coaches who had him from round one are laughing.

BAD: Nic Natanui ($249,200) - Scores poorly but by gee he looks impressive doing it.

UGLY DUCKLING: Bradd Dalziell ($313,900) - Looks set to soar in value.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

GOOD: Brian Lake ($435,500) - Amazing transformation. Defies logic key defenders can't score well.

BAD: Jason Akermanis ($305,100) - The less said the better. It would seem.

UGLY DUCKLING: Jordan Roughead ($94,500) - Great back-up ruck choice for Bulldogs and dream teamers.
