WITH 120 years of marriage between them, two Ballarat couples reflected on their lifetimes of happiness and hard work on Sunday. Local couples Des and Pat Elliott and Mildred and John McKay both celebrated their 60th wedding anniversaries at the weekend, sharing happy memories with family and friends. Mr and Mrs Elliott were married at Ballarat’s St Alipius Church on December 1, 1951 and have 7 children and 14 grandchildren. “We have lived a very happy and content life and consider ourselves very lucky,” Mr Elliott said. “It has been a wonderful day to celebrate with our family and recognise our love for each other.” The couple have lived in Ballarat for their six decades of married life. Mr and Mrs McKay married at St Andrew’s Kirk church on December 15, 1951, have lived in Rokewood for six decades. Also celebrating their Diamond anniversary, they have two children and six grandchildren. Mrs McKay said the secret of their successful union was simple.“We just made sure we picked the right ones before we decided to get married,” she said. “It has been a very happy marriage and the celebration was lovely on the weekend.”Both couples celebrated the milestones with family and friends and look forward to more years of happy marriage.
