MORE aged care places will be available in Ballarat, with more than $2.5 million funding announced on Wednesday.
The $2,544,500 comes from the Federal Government Aged Care Approvals scheme and will provide homes and care for the elderly in Ballarat, Ballan and Bacchus Marsh.
"With nearly two million Australians aged over 70 years or older, and with this number expected to triple over the next 40 years, it is important for the government to work to meet the challenges of our
ageing population," Ballarat MHR Catherine King said.
"Lots more of our elderly are opting to stay at home as long as possible. This funding will help many in the region to do just that."
Springtime Bacchus Marsh is the big winner from the funding pool, set to receive $1,777,500 to provide 25 additional high care residential places and 25 low care residential places.
Ballan and District Soldiers' Memorial Bush Nursing Home is earmarked to receive $529,600 to provide additional extended aged care at home and community aged care.
And in Ballarat, Southern Cross Care will receive $237,400 to provide additional community aged care and extended home care.
SCC Victoria chief executive officer Jan Horsnell said she was delighted that the extra funding would help to ease regional waiting lists of older people currently seeking care services to assist them living
at home.
"SCC Grampians has been providing funded Community Aged Care Packages to the aged and frail in the community for the past eight years," she said.
"Each ensuing year extra funding has been allocated to our organisation enabling us to expand and care for more people in the Ballarat area.
"These extra packages will enable us to provide a continuity of care for existing clients and the opportunity for more people to receive assistance at home."
