Alleged thief can't find $5000 for bail

23 Feb, 2012 03:57 PM
A DARLEY man found in possession of guns, drugs, stolen property and a machete on Wednesday was today remanded in custody, pending a $5000 surety to secure his bail.

Josh Ford, 23, appeared at the Ballarat Magistrates Court facing a range of burglary, theft, weapons and drugs charges.

Police arrested Ford on Wednesday while executing a search warrant at a home of his partner and children in Bacchus Marsh.

Detective Senior Constable Eddy Barake told the court police seized a number of items from the home and Ford's car, including jewellery, tools, electrical goods, camping equipment, automotive goods and fishing equipment.

A machete and two unregistered firearms - one altered to be concealed under clothing - were also seized during the raid.

The court heard much of the property seized was stolen from burglaries in Bacchus Marsh in recent weeks, and that Ford was on bail for theft-related charges at the time the raid was carried out.

Defence lawyer Shelly Buchecker urged Magistrate Richard Pithouse to grant her client bail, arguing he had strong support of his family, many of who were in court.

Mr Pithouse granted bail with strict conditions and the $5000 surety, which was unable to be paid immediately, so Ford was taken into custody.

He will next appear in court on March 1.

Just another day in paradise. These headlines are telling the authorities what? Nothing I'd guess other than let's do another coffee and doughnut run.

Should be $50k... I would rather he be kept in jail anyway.. The courts are supposed to protect us from these criminals.. Think about all the people who this mongrel impacted with his thieving. Perhaps if his supportive family had acted instead of waiting until he was arrested less crimes might have been committed...

exactly whynot if a family is supportive it proves what they are suppotive of therefore this pest has no excuse for his actions and should be locked away. letting filth like this go never teaches any of them a lesson some family REALLY??? raise your kids properly.
