ROYAL South Street's finest artists combined to dazzle and delight a sell-out Showcase 2005 audience last night.
The program, a celebration of Australasia's performing arts, featured song, dance, speech, drama and musical ensembles.
Royal South Street chief executive officer Peter Bowler said the Her Majesty's Theatre performance was one to remember.
"We are presenting the cream of our talent that have done very well at competition," he said.
"It's always very exciting, because you can see the best of South Street all on one night."
He said performers were honoured to feature at the event, a sentiment reinforced by Showcase institution Carole Oliver.
The Carole Oliver School of Ballet director, Carole Oliver, had three boys and 16 girls presenting excerpts from Parquita in the open age classical ballet. "The students are quite thrilled and delighted to perform," she said.
Meanwhile, Mr Bowler said the standard of the 114th competition had been "incredible".
"It just keeps amazing us."
He said entries hit a record 7800, which was 550 more than last year.
Of those, 832 were newcomers to South Street.
The major growth areas included calisthenics, instrumental, senior vocal, and television auditions.
Mr Bowler said attendances throughout the competition had also increased.
