Australian music legends rock Kryal Castle

LEGENDS of Australian rock and roll INXS took top billing at Ballarat’s Kryal Castle on Saturday night.

Headlining the Red Hot Summer Tour alongside Vanessa Amorosi and James Reyne, the band delighted long-time fans at the medieval venue with new lead singer Ciaran Gribbin stealing the show.

In its fourth year, the tour aims to bring Australia’s best live acts to regional Victoria and Saturday’s concert didn’t disappoint.

INXS devotees used the concert to celebrate the birthday of original lead singer Michael Hutchence, who died in 1997.

Fan Kim Bonney said the performance was “awesome.”

“Thank you INXS so much for putting on an amazing, never to be forgotten show,” she said.

Gribbin joined the band in September following the departure of Canadian singer J.D. Fortune.

The Northern-Irish singer-songwriter demonstrated his wealth of experience, having worked with Paul McCartney, Madonna, Paul Oakenfold, Snow Patrol and Groove Armada.

Fan Sue Pavey said the gig was one of the best live performances she could remember.

“Loved every minute of the show,” she said. “It was totally awesome.”

Not a bad crowd considering it is only a cover band.

Such a sad demise of the band who were once on a par with U2 and REM

They looked like they were reinventing themselves very successfully 5 years ago but since Chris Martin came back on the scene he has turned them into a hotel showband. I hope this can be turned around but I fear INXS are over

Inxs were given a true Gift-horse with JD Fortune but they chose to kick him out and replace him with a lifeless, soulless tryhard. Sorry guys - you had the 'X' factor going with JD... now you simply have the Zero factor in place. Get JD Fortune back or call it quits.
