LEANNE and Stuart Clarke are home and happy after the speedy birth of their daughter Eliza Peta.
Eliza was delivered by ambulance officers in her mum's bedroom at 7.15pm Wednesday -only 2.5 hours after Leanne felt her first "twinge".
The Smythes Creek couple were prepared to leave for the Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital about 6pm but were stopped by Leanne's intense labour pains.
"I tried to get into the car but it was too painful," Leanne said.
"We rang the ambulance and they made it to our house just in time - two pushes and she was out."
Leanne spent Wednesday night in hospital but was feeling so well she decided to return home yesterday.
She said her family had no history of fast births.
But the couple thought the physical toil of their six-month camping trip in Western Australia combined with Leanne's daily 5km walks may have contributed to the quick labour.
The new mum, who still hadn't slept due to the excitement, said Eliza had slept soundly since the birth.
However the family's dogs - Tika, Amalfi and Chamonix - are making up for the peace and quiet.
"They've been very excited too," Leanne said.
The couple praised the professionalism of paramedic Greg Tingate and student paramedic Jo Cosgriff.
"They were absolutely fantastic, very calming and supportive," they said.
