Ballarat Botanical Gardens to host last Summer Sundays

28 Jan, 2012 01:24 AM
The final of the successful Summer Sundays events will be held this weekend at the Ballarat Botanical Gardens, with a special twilight screening of the 1941 classic Citizen Kane.

Tomorrow’s event follows three successful events this month, where up to 1000 people have packed the gardens to hear live music and to sample some fresh desserts. Tomorrow’s dusk movie screening breaks away from the event’s traditional music base, but promises to be just as popular with local families.

The evening will begin at 5pm, with the movie expected to begin just after 8pm.

Widely considered a cinematic classic, Citizen Kane is a black and white American drama nominated for an Academy Award in nine categories – winning the award for Best Writing.

Directed by and starring Orson Welles, the film examines the life and legacy of Charles Forster Kane, a character based upon the American newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst and Welles’ own life.

Popcorn and choc-tops will be available on the night.

Whilst Citizen Kane is a classic I wouldn't have thought it would be popular for a family event. Wizard of Oz maybe?
