Ballarat councillor Des Hudson has  has pulled out of the Labor Party preselection race for Ballarat West.

BALLARAT councillor Des Hudson has pulled out of the Labor Party preselection process for Ballarat West.Cr Hudson today said he did not believe he had been a member of the party for long enough to consider a preselection bid.Cr Hudson only recently became a Labor Party member. He had previously stood for Liberal Party preselection in the lead up to the 2006 state election.''I was encouraged by those who had approached me who said I had the right attributes (to stand as a candidate) but the timing might not be now.''The preselection battle for the safe Labor seat is likely to be fought out by welfare worker Sharon Knight and another councillor Cheryl Bromfield.A preselection vote is required after incumbent MP Karen Overington last month announced she would not contest the November election.
