CASTLEMAINE Goldfields has uncovered one of the best underground gold intersections recorded to date in the Ballarat goldfields.
It follows recent exploration diamond drilling on its Sulieman Line.
The quartz intersection is estimated to be about 21 metres wide, with its height unknown.
The company now plans to do follow-up drilling to test the new gold target.
Castlemaine Goldfields managing director Matthew Gill said the find reinforced their view that the best area to explore and mine for gold at Ballarat was at the northern part of the goldfield.
"We are currently extending the existing underground decline and this will pass close by this intersection," Mr Gill said.
