BALLARAT federal Liberal candidate Mark Banwell will not say whether he has been gagged by his party.
Speculation has been mounting that Mr Banwell had been instructed to avoid media interviews after describing Labor's education revolution program as a "potential holocaust" while campaigning last week.
The phrase earnt a rebuke from Liberal leader Tony Abbott, and Mr Banwell apologised for the reference in a statement released the following day.
Since then, he has made few public statements.
In the past three days, media releases from Mr Banwell's office have been issued on Coalition commitments to boost spending on childcare and lower company tax rates.
But when The Courier attempted to speak with him about the releases this week, phone calls were not returned.
Yesterday, his media officer Joe McCracken said Mr Banwell would not be available for interview until next week.
He is scheduled to appear for a doorstop interview in Bacchus Marsh on Monday morning.
Mr Banwell is understood to have spent yesterday campaigning in Ballarat.
