A FORMER Ballarat policeman and his brother-in-law are at the centre of the latest Crown Casino security controversy.Recently released Crown CCTV footage shows Acting Sergeant Leigh Discher and Sergeant Glenn Saw being manhandled by Crown bouncers in January last year. Both men were placed in headlocks and wrestled to the ground by a pack of security guards before Acting Sergeant Discher was ejected from the casino.Sergeant Saw was taken to a basement interview room and detained for an hour. The pair, who were off-duty at the time, are suing Crown for an undisclosed sum, but legal sources say it could be as much $400,000 each for pain and suffering under the Wrongs Act.Sergeant Saw told the Sunday Herald Sun newspaper that he feared for his safety, while Acting Sergeant Discher said he was “absolutely stunned” by the incident.“When they first took me to the loading bay (exit) I thought I was going to cop a bashing out of view of the cameras and I was concerned for Glenn’s safety and whereabouts,” he said.Premier Ted Baillieu yesterday said he had asked Victoria Police for advice on whether the security industry needed tougher regulation.Crown spokesman Gary O’Neill said he would not discuss the pair’s legal action, but said Crown’s security staff training was “first class”.
