Ballarat on cards for new police recruits

07 Mar, 2010 11:36 PM
FIFTY-one new recruits graduated from the Victoria Police Academy last week, but it is not known whether Ballarat will seen any of the new officers.

Police minister Bob Cameron said the 17 women and 34 men who graduated from the academy had undertaken 20 weeks of intensive training and joined a proud history of serving the Victorian Government.

He said almost 4000 people were currently undergoing training at the academy to help strengthen Victoria Police's frontline.

Ballarat East MLA Geoff Howard said while the deployment of new graduates was up to police command there had been an increase in police numbers in Ballarat from 84 in 1999 to 117 at present.

"I expect that this commitment to recruiting and training new police graduates will continue to see more police following to Ballarat," Mr Howard said.

"Since our election to government we have seen a record 5500 police recruits through the police academy and these recruits are now out on the street across the state."

Are you a little bit confused Geoff? Why would we be getting more police? According to you we don't need any. Hopefully the good residents of this town can see you for what you are and vote accordingly.

So Bob Cameron has the police serving the government rather than the people. That explains why we do not get the actual number serving Ballarat. Geoff Howard says 117, Greg Davies says 62. Who is the liar?

If six of the new graduates are from Ballarat logic says they were recruited to serve in Ballarat, wouldn't it?

I'd say Geoff, Bedlam.

"Since our election to government we have seen a record 5500 police recruits through the police academy". Is that the amount of recruits that have actually graduated or does that include the ones that did not make the grade? How about releasing the numbers of police that have left the service over the same period.

It's fantastic to read of the successes in recruiting new Police. Hopefully some WILL get to Ballarat. Based on the figures supplied though, a student population of 4000 at the Police Academy seems incomprehensible. If Police Minister Bob Cameron did really say "serving the Victorian Government", then he should do a stint at the front desk of a local Police Station to see who serves who.

I think Howard needs to make a clear distinction here on numbers. How many are physically undertaking the 20 weeks training and how many have graduated but are still under training although working at stations? The academy would not be capable of holding 4000 trainees regardless of whether they resided on premises or off. More smoke and mirrors from Geoff's lot.

Goeff Howard, just retire and admit the facts. Your in compitent, you contracdict youself and nobody really respects you. You remind me of Mayor Vendy when he stated that Ballarat was such a safe town and he would recommend that anybody venture out after 10.pm Then a group of councillors did come out on a tour and fights were breaking out before their eyes. There is much before your eyes also that you cant see, or refuse to see like an ostridge with it's head in the ground. You wont be getting my vote of good report to anybosy else. The public are not all uneducated as some of you over-paid polititons think. Community developement groups are a powerful weapon to keep you guys accountable. Just have a look at the HAD ENOUGH Facebook site for instance, people have HAD ENOUGH!! ANd we wont stop until we get what we want, your position gives you the priviledge to serve us, not the other way around mate. Take your job more seriously and keep to your word and people might end up respecting you, I said maybe? As you are getting pretty well known for all the wrong reasons. Start telling the truth, not what sounds good but isn't. Everybody here is onto you.

It you havn't noticed Mr Geoff Howard the truth is speaking through the writters and public who are informed here. You might be able to decieve others with some good looking statistic's, but as written here by an educated writter, it just doesn't add-up! I think what the writters are sating here should be written in The Courier and not your wool-pulling over the eyes attempts. Ballarat simply and clearly NEEDS more Police. More Police on the streets during hours of operation of licensed premises, but also more at other times during the day time and night time. And Clunes and Bunningyong, they have ONE officer on at the station at a time. Like really? And Ballarat as rated 2nd to New York by a report by The ABC regarding assaults hasn't got enough Police? No wonder the government cut The ABC's funding years ago, they report more truth and what right-wingers in parliment dont want the public to know. Your all a Joke and you Shame Ballarat, yourselves and us residents that deserve better. And yes The Police and You are here to serve us, it seems to keep getting turned around? Now why is that??
