Ballarat pair faces court over handbag theft

10 Mar, 2010 04:36 PM
TWO people accused of robbing a woman after she gave them a lift to the Ballarat Railway Station last night have been remanded in custody.

Xanda Green, 25, and Anthony Oakroot, 32, both of Ballarat appeared briefly in Ballarat Magistrates Court today.

Police allege the pair stole the victim's handbag after she gave them a lift to the train station about 7pm.

After removing the contents, they dumped the bag and fled on the train.

Ballarat and Bacchus Marsh police arrested the pair, and another woman, as they got off the train at Bacchus Marsh.

Green faces six charges, including robbery, theft and unlawful assault.

She is expected to make a bail application tomorrow.

Oakroot has been charged with five offences, including recklessly causing injury and assault with the intention to rob.

He made no application for bail and was remanded in custody to reappear at court on March 31.

The second woman has not been charged.
