BALLARAT'S water storage has reached its highest level for eight years.
Ballarat's reservoirs are almost 70 per cent full, a figure that has not been reached since 2002.
And that figure is expected to keep rising.
Central Highlands Water spokeswoman Shelley Best said there was still good flow into the catchments after recent rains, and Ballarat's immediate future was secured.
Under stage 1 water restrictions, it is estimated that Ballarat has enough water to last at least five years.
"Water resources for Ballarat and district have continued to improve, with storages now holding more than 5.2 years of supply under the current stage 1 restriction levels," she said.
"Into the future this means that the Goldfields Superpipe has secured supplies for the region well beyond 2030."
Catchments were 69.2 per cent full on Tuesday, a substantial rise from the 64.7 per cent reading taken on the previous Tuesday.
Storages were as low as seven per cent in 2007.
Although less than 5mm of rain has fallen in the past week, Ms Best said there is still steady water flowing from previous downpours.
"There are still good inflows into our reservoirs from the recent rainfall," she said.
On January 1 this year, Ballarat was on stage 3 restrictions before they were eased to stage 1 on August 1.
Ballarat had spent the previous three years under stage 4 and stage 4e restrictions.
