A BALLARAT woman has died in hospital after a car accident in the city last night.

The woman, believed to have recently turned 18, was taken to The Alfred Hospital with serious head injuries after the two-car collision on the corner of Peel and Mair streets at 8.15pm.

She was a passenger in the crash, which also saw the female driver taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital with minor injuries.
