BALLARAT'S Bean Barn can boast its roast is the toast of town, taking home a swag of awards last weekend. The cafe was one of 1000 entrants in the CSR Golden Bean National Coffee Roasting Championships at Port Macquarie last weekend.Owner Richard Emery took home a silver and three bronze medals, placing the Bean Barn in the top 10 coffee roasters in the country."You get judged on things like acidity, mouth feel, body, after taste and balance of sweetness," he said. "I was hoping I'd get some medals but was I expecting to rate so highly, no way." "We beat some really good and big coffee roasters... some of these guys are Italians, they've got it in their blood."The silver medal was for a coffee grown in the Tweed Valley in NSW while the bronze medals were for roasts from Indonesian and Indian beans and a house blend called Mopoke.
