BALLARAT’S iconic Begonia Parade will include an extra special entry in 2012, as UFS Dispensaries and Ollie’s Lollies team up to make the sweetest float.
In keeping with the fairytales theme of the parade, sponsored by The Courier, the float will be based on the classic story of Hansel and Gretel and will feature a gingerbread house designed by master float builder Clayton Edwards.
Construction of the float is under way at the home of Ollie’s, which produces a wide range of confectionery sold in retail outlets in the Ballarat region.
The business is the newest addition to McCallum Industries, an Australian Disability Enterprise offering supported employment opportunities for people with a disability.
UFS Dispensaries marketing and development manager Samantha Elshaug said the company was excited to be involved in the community event.
“We’re pleased to be working collaboratively with McCallum to help them realise their final objectives,” she said.
Ollie’s manager Trevor Miller said the partnership was a great result for Ballarat. “The two organisations have a great partnership which benefits our clients and will result in a great float for the parade,” he said.
The 60th anniversary of the Ballarat Begonia Festival will be held from March 10 to 12, and the parade will take place on Monday, March 13 at 11am along Wendouree Parade.
Registrations for the parade close on February 10 and will include a new musical entry category.
