Burn-offs start again

11 Mar, 2010 11:35 PM
CONTROLLED burns are expected to fire up again in the Ballarat district this weekend.

The Department of Sustainability and Environment expects to take advantage of mild conditions to continue its autumn burns.

DSE Midlands district fire manager Gary White said there would be burns across the district over the next week, depending on the weather.

He said three burns were likely to start in the Mt Cole area, north-west of Beaufort, and a large burn would happen at Happy Valley, near Linton.

Some burns were started yesterday, south of Daylesford and these would continue.

More than 100 DSE and Parks Victoria firefighters are being brought into the district. More than 18,000 hectares of public land will be burnt across the state.
