Car through fence at Newington after pursuit

09 Feb, 2010 10:47 AM
POLICE are hunting a driver who led them on a brief pursuit, before crashing through the fence of a Newington home where a young family was sleeping.

Police first noticed the car, a silver Holden Statesman, speeding in Eyre St, Ballarat, late last night.

They tried to intercept the car, but the male driver failed to pull over, prompting a brief pursuit.

The chase came to a dramatic end when the man ploughed through the fence of a house at the corner of Collard and Murray streets in Newington shortly after 12am.

The man then fled the scene on foot.

The fence was extensively damaged in the crash.

Anyone with information about the pursuit should contact Ballarat Police on 5336 6000 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
