Castlemaine Goldfields says Ballarat to produce first gold bars

01 Aug, 2011 10:04 AM
AFTER months of redevelopment at the Ballarat Gold Mine, Castlemaine Goldfields says the first gold bullion will be delivered on time next month.

The company has been focused on underground mine development and re-commissioning the gold-processing plant.

About 3,500 tonnes of low-grade gold ore have been mined so far for the processing plant to start up operations.

The plant was commissioned last week.

In a statement this morning, Castlemaine Goldfields managing director Matthew Gill said the plant would be run on a dayshift this month to bed the process in and so the newly-recruited plant operators could learn the process.

The processing plant will then begin operating 24-hours a day, three to four days a week next month, with the first gold bullion to be produced in late September.

"This is great timing given the current high gold prices and sentiment for this precious metal," Mr Gill said.
