CENTRAL Highlands Water says it has no plans for a price hike, after Coliban Water said it wants to amend its five-year plan to pay off its debt.
Coliban Water, which supplies Bendigo and the surrounding area, will propose to the Essential Services Commission next month to bring forward its price rises by 12 months.
If this is successful, the price of water will rise by an extra 50 perthcent, on top of the price rise already approved by the ESC.
Opposition water spokesman Peter Walsh said on Friday he was concerned that other water authorities would follow Coliban Water's lead, to recoup the massive losses they accumulated in 2008-09.
Yesterday, CHW managing director Neil Brennan said the authority had no plans to raise Ballarat's prices further.
"We're keeping in line with the ESC pricing, we're comfortable with that," Mr Brennan said.
"The board's very conscious about getting efficiencies out of the business, making sure the business absorbs growth ... there's no consideration of looking at pricing."
CHW increased its rising block tariff by 5.1 per cent on July 1 last year, in line with its five-year plan set in 2008 to support the authority's business and projects.
Customers are now charged an extra nine cents ($1.40) for the first 150 kilolitres, and an extra nine cents per kilolitre ($1.68) for the next 151 to 300 kilolitres. More than 300 kilolitres is charged at $2.10 a kilolitre, up 14 cents on 2008-09 prices.
Water access fees also went up nearly $15, from $185 in 2008-09.
Under the 2008 price review, Ballarat's household water bills were to increase by an average of 38.4 per cent over the next five years.
The next three financial years will bring increases of 3.1 per cent.
