Eating burgers for good cause

5/09/2008 1:01:00 AM
NEXT week is Ballarat's opportunity to remember Victoria Police officers who have died in the line of duty by indulging themselves.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation honours police officers killed while working by raising money for community projects.

Projects that have previously benefited include several emergency units spread across Victoria.

To help the foundation, McDonald's will be having a drive-through challenge between 6pm and 7pm next Friday.

For every car served at the window the chain will donate $1 to the foundation.

"We expect to raise $20,000 (state wide) and it's probably one of the most high profile things we can do to help the community and assist the police in what they do," Bakery Hill McDonald's owner Ian Corcoran said.

"It's something we have the ability to do and we have always had a very close association with the police and it's another way to continue to cement that relationship."

Ballarat Police Acting Sergeant Cam McRae encouraged the community to get behind the cause.

"It's all for a good cause and its great to have their support in helping the emergency services," he said.

The first two sentences of this article really gave me a laugh. Needless to say, I'm not a police officer but I certainly wouldn't like to 'die in the line of duty by indulging myself'.
