eBay sale nipped in bud

10 Nov, 2008 04:00 AM
TWO Ballarat men will face court after attempting to sell, on eBay, a vehicle they had stolen.

The men, aged 28 and 45, were charged with theft of a motor vehicle after posting an advertisment for the stolen Ford ute on the auction website.

They were also charged with cannabis possession.

Ballarat Police Detective Sergeant Jeff Highthorn said the ute had been taken from its Dunnstown owner last month.

The advertisment was seen recently and the pair were charged last week.

He said people advertising stolen goods on eBay were uncommon.

"Most things sold privately are done legitimately and people do the right checks," Det Sgt Highthorn said.

The ute had been recovered and returned to its owner, he said.

The men have been bailed to appear at Ballarat Magistrates Court on January 15.
