Considering the costs of police, ambulance, fire brigade and hospitals, the four recent accidents in Eureka Street would justify a permanent speed camera at the corner of Otway and Eureka Streets. Dangerous drivers ignore speed signs, but they'd soon take notice of hefty fines.

People speed dangerously in the better lealed parts of Ballarat and it's an issue. For goodness sake, people have been speeding dangerously in Marigold Street in Wendouree West (It's the longest road in the suburb) for years and there were even a couple of fatalities there 20 years ago and never a wimper in the Ballarat Courier or any suggestion of building speed bumps along it to slow cars down. I suppose that the good people of Wendouree West will have to continue taking their chances crossing the streets of their suburb at night while the morons continue to use them as a speedway.
