WHAT better way to celebrate the first day of spring than a day out with the girls at the races.
Ladies Day at the Ballarat Turf Club yesterday attracted more than 160 frocked-up fillies in their finest to socialise and discuss the trends for the upcoming racing season.
Ballarat teachers-aide Kylie Reus, 29, was named the winner of the Face of the Ballarat Cup competition.
She said she was honoured and had been encouraged to enter the competition by workmates and her boyfriend.
''I'm a races girl and I think my boyfriend might think I'm a bit of alright,'' she said, laughing.
Her outfit for the catwalk was pieced together with pieces from Myer, Forever New and David Jones.
''Go with what your own personal style is, stick with some trends but put your own personal touch to things,'' she said,
Ladies Day MC Marita Punshon said she was thrilled with the day and particularly impressed by the women entering the Lady of the Day competition.
''The girls all looked absolutely gorgeous and I think we're seeing a return to the fascinator,'' she said.
Linda Fahy, dressed by local designer Clare Schreenan, was given the Lady of the Day title, wearing a traditional cream below the knee dress, gloves and a fascinator.
