FOUR new fire stations worth a total of about $1 million will be constructed across the region following a recent announcement of extra State Government funding.
Construction is expected to start on stations at Amphitheatre, Ascot and District, Napoleons-Enfield and Musk by the end of the year.
CFA Midlands Wimmera general manager Don Kelly said many of the small rural stations were outdated and too small to house new model fire trucks.
"They will improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the fire brigades," he said of the upgrades.
"The CFA has always been committed to maintaining fire stations in small communities."
Mr Kelly said preliminary work had already been completed for the Ascot station and construction was set to begin in the next couple of months.
The new station will have space for two firetrucks and include basic amenities.
Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron announced $26 million in funding on Tuesday to be used for the upgrade of 60 rural stations over the next two years.
There are 30 rural stations in this year's CFA budget and another 30 will be determined next year.
Mr Cameron said the features for the new stations would be determined by local needs and would include bigger areas to house vehicles, environmental design features and meeting rooms.
"The Brumby Labor Government is committed to building stronger communities in country Victoria and part of that is through providing modern updated facilities to assist our CFA volunteers in doing
their important work," he said.
"These new stations will meet the growing needs of rural communities, some of which were severely affected by this year's fires."
