DOZENS of firefighters have battled a blaze at a Clunes shooting range which burned up to 10 hectares yesterday afternoon. The flames were contained within about an hour after more than 20 vehicles and two aircraft were sent to the fire.Firefighters believe the wind may have re-ignited a burn off at Clunes Field and Game which was conducted more than a week ago.CFA operations officer Alfred Mason said dense smoke and steep terrain made the fire difficult to control.“It was so inaccessible, that was the issue for us,” he said.An “abundance” of grass had fed the fire, operations officer Mason said.It followed several smaller fires in the Ballarat region yesterday. A small grass and scrub fire in Alfredton was contained quickly while a spot fire in Blowhard was brought under control within about 10 minutes.Firefighters were also called to a gas leak at a service station on Humffray Street in Bakery Hill and a car which was leaking petrol on Dawson Street.
