HEPBURN Shire Council has appointed its first ever female chief executive office.
Kaylene Conrick replaces Victor Szwed, who resigned from the position in March after 13 years in the job.
Ms Conrick's appointment was announced at a special council meeting on Tuesday.
She has been CEO of the Borough of Queenscliff for almost 12 months, and has a wealth of local government experience spanning 16 years.
She signed a five-year $200,000 annual remuneration package.
Mayor Tim Hayes said the council selected Ms Conrick for her extensive experience and demonstrated skills in leading an organisation. "Not only does she have an understanding of rural shires and communities but she is experienced at working with communities that have dealt with change, with situations similar to those in the Hepburn Shire such as tourism and the tree change culture," Cr Hayes said.
"Ms Conrick impressed the council with her level of understanding and experience in relation to business management, governance, community development, and her people management skills, including her ability to connect community and staff at all levels.
"Ms Conrick has shown that she engages extensively with community members and groups and other levels of government, and develops successful networks and productive relationships."
Melbourne-based Philip Shanahan has held the position of interim CEO.
