JUDY Verlin will stand in the central ward when she contests the November Ballarat City Council election.
The former Ballarat mayor announced her intention to seek re-election to council in August, but did not reveal the ward she would target.
"I've had strong representation from businesses, driven more by central ward people," Mrs Verlin said.
"(But) a councillor standing is about the whole city anyway.
"It doesn't stop at the Arch of Victory - it's about the whole of Ballarat."
In making the announcement, Mrs Verlin also urged council candidates to avoid pushing their political party preferences, saying local government should be about local issues.
A former Liberal Party candidate at a state level, Mrs Verlin said she would leave her political ideology at the door of the chamber should she be elected.
Fellow candidates Belinda Coates and Jon Stanger, have stated they are endorsed by the Greens.
They said political party affiliations needed to be stated openly before the election.
"It is unrealistic and even a bit deceitful to say that councillors' party affiliations are not tied in with their values and principles and will not (affect their decisions)," Ms Coates said.
