Funding pledge for Ballarat health care provider

01 Oct, 2010 11:25 AM
BALLARAT District Nursing and Healthcare will receive $1.8 million to upgrade its headquarters under a Coalition government.

Opposition leader Ted Baillieu announced the funding during a visit to Ballarat this morning.

Mr Baillieu said BDNH provided a vital service to thousands of patients throughout the Grampians region.

''This funding of $1.8 million committed by the Coalition will ensure that the agency will be able to undertake the much-needed redevelopment of their base in Ballarat, which in turn enable them to adequately provide services for the projected increase of patients in the

region,'' he said.

BDNH chairwoman Professor Sally Wellard said the building, located in Sturt St, was over-crowded and needed urgent redevelopment.

''We don't have adequate office space for the number of nurses,'' Professor Wellard said.

''They're on the road a lot of the time but when they come back there isn't the internet infrastructure in the building to be able to provide nurses with online support for their work.''

Professor Wellard said the redevelopment would create more space for clients to attend podiatry services at the centre.

BDNH provides a vareity of services including diabetes care, aged care services, post acute care services, palliative care and chronic disease self management.

The health care provider will celebrate its centenary in April next year.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Courier only printed comments bagging the Liberals as per usual, the biased of this paper beggars belief

I've always voted ALP, but as a senior I feel there is no alternative but to vote for Baillieu as the state of our health system is terrible

Jon Peters what do you mean? Isnt this a good Liberal story ? A very worthy cause and a thoughtful promise, one would hope.

Ted Baillieu likes to spend your money because he's never had to work hard to earn his own.

It is only a pledge. If both the government and the coalition had to honour everything they pledged they would crumble in a day.

Underground powerlines, buy back fire prone properties, helipad, new roads and now this. Whilst all are deserving I am just curious as to where all the money is coming from?

Benjamin, you might think about how hard it might be to do any work when you have more money than you could ever spend! Sounds as if you wouldn't bother.

Well done, Liberals! Helping an organisation which does a huge amount of work in the Ballarat community, and which is working in extremely overcrowdwd and out dated conditions!

Let's call a spade a spade. A worthy cause here and good on Craig Coltman and Ben Taylor for convincing the Libs of its worthiness. Those blinded by their own politics ought to get a life.
