Geordie goes from farming to filming

17/05/2008 1:21:00 AM
GEORDIE Taylor was driving his tractor on the family farm when his mobile rang.

"It was the director for Canal Road asking me to come up to Melbourne for an audition,'' the Rokewood farm boy said.

"I was literally on the tractor, in my dirty jeans and boots and said I'd drive up straight away, the director didn't believe me.''

The ideal farmhand, Geordie naturally was chosen for the role of Dean on Channel Nine's Canal Road.

"The character (Dean) is a farm boy from Burrumbeet,'' Geordie said.

"He's been with Bridget (Brooke Satchwell) before, they grew up together.

"Bridget's gone off to the city to get away from it all, now he's back and really wants to see her and get back with her.''

It's Geordie's first big break since finishing drama school a few years ago.

He studied as a boarder at Geelong College, which he loved.

"It's a really good school for acting,'' he said. "They had a strong drama program, but everyone said I was crazy.''

The 28-year-old worked as a jackaroo around Australia for a few years, but decided he wanted to pursue his dream of acting.

He spent three years at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, where he thrived.

After leaving WAAPA he moved to Sydney, but struggled to find steady work as an actor.

"It didn't really happen, so I came home and jumped on the tractor and last year in the middle of the sowing season I got the phone call from Canal Road,'' Geordie said.

"It was my first professional job, but I've had a few since. I've got a role in the new Natalie Imbruglia film Elise coming out soon and the big Steven Spielberg blockbuster The Pacific.

"I also do a lot of voice work for radio and TV and just did an audition for the new Channel 10 series Rush.''

However, Geordie's not content to just tackle the Australia industry. He recently auditioned for CSI, and his American accent in definitely up to scratch.

"From here on I hope to get a couple of bigger roles then head off overseas - New York, LA, London,'' he said. "I still love coming back to the farm though, it's good to get away from it all.''
