Hepburn Springs man killed when trapped under semi-trailer

24 Jan, 2012 11:56 PM
WORKSAFE will investigate a fatal workplace incident in which a Hepburn Springs man was killed after he became trapped underneath a semi-trailer.

Emergency crews were called to a truck depot on Main Street in Hepburn Springs about 7pm yesterday following reports the 63-year-old man was trapped.

Police said the man was in the yard when a semi-trailer rolled from where it was parked, then pinned him against some machinery and rolled over the top of him.

Bacchus Marsh Sergeant Trevor Johnstone said workers had tried to free the man using two forklifts, but he died soon after emergency crews arrived.

More than a dozen devastated friends, family and workers watched on in shock, while the man’s lifeless body could still be seen lying by the truck.

Sergeant Johnstone said authorities were trying to establish the exact cause of the death, and while police carried out the preliminary investigations, Worksafe would investigate further.
