Hepburn Wind generates first power into grid

22 Jun, 2011 12:31 PM
HEPBURN Wind has fed its first power into the electricity grid this morning, after a six-year project to get the wind farm up and running.

It follows the wind company receiving its final certificate of electrical safety yesterday.

Hepburn Wind's commissioning teams have started reliability testing for one of its turbines, with the second turbine to be tested this week.

In March, Leonards Hill, near Daylesford, became Australia's first town to set up a community-owned renewable energy project, raising its 110-metre wind turbine.

The project is expected to generate more power than Daylesford uses annually.

Come on the view from the main street in Daylesford is terrible, what an outrage

Lets hope one doesn't start and fire as it will burn to the back of sunbury

Great, well done Daylesford community for showing the way of the future and some initiative. Eventually Daylfordites will pay less for electricity than the rest of us. Now you need a solar farm somewhere to the North of the township.

the amount of power these two turbines produce would run a ligh bulb. The people of daylesford will only see their power bills rise like everyone else's in Victoria to prop this dud industry up

Excellent news. Hopefully the first of many community windfarms (in the more enlightened parts of the country, I'd imagine).

another pathetic symbol that will be looked upon in the future as the down fall of the Greens. a sad day for the good people of leonards hill

Wow, while Tony and Julia are fighting it out, it takes a tiny community in regional Australia to show some vision! Well done Hepburn people. Please make sure you pass on your knowledge to other communities!

What did it cost the taxpayers? about 2mil in grants.

I hope we are going to see results for our money? or will it be like all the other windfarms are, and refuse to publish how much power is being generated and when it is being generated. Theres no point in making power full bore at 2am when there is no demand if its windy, but then not making any throuh the day.

Well done Hepburn Wind, and to all the locals who invested in this from the start. What a fantastic community spirit - shows what we can do when we work together for a positive future. I want one in my community.
