A MELBOURNE man suffered serious injuries in a trail bike accident near Spargo Creek yesterday. The 29-year-old from Lalor was taken by air ambulance to the Royal Melbourne Hospital after coming off his bike along Spargo Blakeville Rd just after 10am.Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the man had sustained neck shoulder and rib injuries, as well as possible spinal injuries. His condition was described as serious when he was airlifted, but by late yesterday his condition had improved considerably and he was listed as stable. Earlier, he had endured a painful car ride from the site of the accident to the Mineral Springs Hotel, where his friends were able to call for help.Ballan police senior constable Ian Watson said the man had been riding with his friends in the area, about six kilometres east of Spargo Creek, when the accident happened. He said the man had failed to take a corner along the gravel road and was thrown from his bike.vp+5Though the area is heavily treed, he did not collide with anything when he came off. "(He) just went straight ahead and got thrown. He didn't hit anything, he hit the ground and the bush," Sen Const Watson said. His friends had put him in a car and driven the six kms to the hotel on the Ballan Daylesford Rd where they called 000, Sen Const Watson said.Ballan police and the air ambulance arrived at the hotel shortly afterwards, before the man was flown to Melbourne. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and no one else was hurt. The area is popular with motorbike and horse riders.
