IT IS one of the most venomous snakes in the world.
The Asian cobra could kill 61,000 mice with a single bite and the Ballarat Wildlife Park has added two more to its own collection.
These two baby snakes might be only 40cm long but already they have enough venom to kill a person - an event that can be a regular occurrence in Asia, according to wildlife park curator Stuart Parker.
"They often live around where humans live because there are usually a lot of rodents," he said.
"They keep down rodent populations around central and eastern Asia, and they are probably one of the most widespread snakes on the planet."
The snake is most commonly found in China, Burma and Cambodia and grows to about 230cm long.
"They are not overly aggressive but like any snake they will bite if provoked," Mr Parker said.
"But they tend to try and get away if they can. It's when they are cornered they will stand their ground and rear up.
"They are highly venomous now. A baby snake is an exact replica of an adult. The venom is exactly the same, they just don't have as much."
The baby cobras are on display now.
