EVER wanted to be the king or queen of your own castle?
Well this might be just the opportunity you are looking for - Ballarat's Kryal Castle is up for sale with a price tag of $10 million.
Built by Keith and Joyce Ryall in 1972 and officially opened in 1974, the bluestone castle comes complete with its own moat, drawbridge, tavern and maze.
"It had always been a dream of mine to build a castle; it's what I've lived for," Mr Ryall said.
Situated on almost 27ha, the medieval theme park is also a popular venue for weddings, functions and special events, including last month's sell-out Wolfmother concert.
Mr Ryall said putting the castle up for sale was a tough but necessary decision.
"I love my castle but it really is a seven-day-a-week business and unfortunately, I'm not getting any younger," he said.
"It's just something I need to do."
Included with the sale will be Mr Ryall's "priceless" collection of medieval paraphernalia, a collection he has lovingly gathered over many years.
"As hard as it will be for me to part with the collection, it really is part of the castle and it should stay with the castle," he said.
Brian Whykes, a long time friend and adviser of Mr Ryall, said the castle would only be sold to the "right people."
"Not that there are millions of alternative uses for a castle that spring to mind but I think it will almost be a prerequisite of the sale that the castle carries on as is and the new owners work towards making Kryal Castle even
bigger and better," Mr Whykes said.
"A new surge of enthusiasm is what we are looking for, people who are willing to expand on the foundations that have already been laid."
The sale of Kryal Castle is being handled by Surrey Hill's firm IL Wollermann and Associates.
