FORGET reindeers, baby farmyard animals are Santa's companions of choice this Christmas.

At least that's the case at the Ringin home, where ducklings, chicks, lambs, an alpaca, pony and a calf will set the festive mood this season.

The Ringin's Chrismas display, in Kyle St Sebastopol, is back by popular demand after a hiatus last year and is a firm favourite in The Courier Christmas Lights Competition.

Gayle Ringin said the family dipped out of the competition last year due to a death in the family, but had returned with some extra features.

The Ringins are among more than 80 entrants expected to vie for a share of the $2500 prize pool in the competition, which closes this Friday. Prizes include $1000 cash from from Regional One Credit Union for first, second prize

is a $400 barbecue and $350 voucher from Buninngs Warehouse and third prize is $500 courtesy of Booth and Lee Real Estate.

A $300 hamper from Latrobe Street Mega Meats will also be awarded in the lucky prize draw.
