Lexton farmers produce world's finest fleece

10 Mar, 2010 09:34 AM
THE world's finest bale of fleece has been produced near Ballarat.

Farmers Robert and Pam Sandlant produced the bale of superfine wool from pedigreed sheep on their Lexton property.

The bale, shorn from 200 sheep during late December and early January, has been judged the finest bale of superfine merino fleece ever produced.

A Hillcrest stud, in the NSW Southern Highlands, held the previous record after it sold for $259,000.

Wool experts believe the Sandlant's 100kg bale will better the record at next week's sale.

Italian and Indian mills are expected to dominate the bids.
