MRI scan before Braydon Stefan heads to Texas

22 Nov, 2011 11:52 PM
MRI scans will determine the immediate future for little Braydon Stefan.

However, Braydon’s mother Zoe Cobb hoped the Sebastopol toddler could begin treatment soon at the Burzynski Clinic in Houston, Texas.

“We’ll talk more about it with Charlie (Dr Charles Teo) this afternoon,” Zoe said. “We’re just off for the MRI scans now.”

The Burzynski Clinic, named after founder Stanislaw Burzynski, specialises in individual cancer treatments.

Zoe said they had discussed taking Braydon to Texas with Dr Teo, who said he felt it would be a good option for the four-year-old.

Braydon was first diagnosed in August with an aggressive stage four brain tumour, with Dr Teo the only surgeon in Australia able to remove it at Sydney’s Prince of Wales Hospital.

He then underwent hyperthermic treatment in Germany in September to try to prevent the tumour returning.

However, routine MRI scans last week before another planned trip to Germany showed two tumours had returned either side of the brain stem.

He was successfully operated on again on Monday.

Despite fears he wouldn’t get a post-operative ICU bed at the Sydney’s Children’s Hospital, a bed was eventually made available as the Prince of Wales Hospital doesn’t have paediatric ICU facilities. However, Zoe said it had cost them an extra $5000 on top of Dr Teo’s $60,000 fee.

What concerns me is that Burzynski is a scam artist who offers hope and takes all your money.
