Mt Clear College pays tribute to teacher Vivien Hodgins

01 Oct, 2009 06:10 PM
STAFF and students have paid tribute this morning to Mt Clear College teacher Vivien Hodgins.

In a press conference at the school, captain Claire Wilson remembered their teacher as someone who had so much enthusiasm towards the school and all the students.

''She was a great media teacher and just a great teacher all round,'' she said.

''We've all got each other, she'd all want us to stick together.''

Acting principal Jenny Bromley said Ms Hodgins would be irreplaceable and the school would hold some type of memorial for her on Monday, when school returns.

''It is a devastating time for the school,'' she said.

''Viv's taught at the school for 33 years and she was loved by all the students and staff.''

Ms Hodgins' family is expected to release a statement later today.

A teacher loved by all. Ms Hodgins walked the halls of MCC with a smile on her face and a laugh in her voice. Every day saying good morning to me as I walked the halls to class. A sad time for all MCC students and staff. Six years of knowing Ms Hodgins felt like a life time. A natural disaster took the lives of so many and left so many in grief. My thoughts go out to her family and friends. She will live on in the hearts of all MCC students and staff and her family and friends. RIP

I am so shocked at this terrible tragedy. I know as a former College Council President how well Vivien was admired and respected by colleagues, parents and students. I do hope the College community can find some way to commemorate her inspirational work at the College so that she is never forgotten. My sincere condolences to her family and all who will feel so lost without her.

The passing of Vivien Hodgins is a tragic loss not only to her family, the whole school and broader Mount Clear community, but to the arts and education communities in general. The staff from the Arts Centre in Melbourne were deeply shocked by the news. We will never forget her passion and enthusiasm for all the arts projects that we had the priveledge to work with her on. Her deep love and understanding of students was exemplary. She was a truly inspirational arts leader. Our hearts are with you all.
