REOPENING the Clunes Railway Station was not part of the Victorian Transport Plan, the State Government has claimed.Spokesman for Public Transport Minister Lynne Kosky, Stephen Moynihan, said the $50 million project to return passenger rail services to Maryborough was a key element of the Victorian Transport Plan."The Maryborough service will provide a terrific daily connection to Ballarat and Melbourne."All services will stop at Creswick, however, at this stage there are no plans for any other stops between Maryborough and Ballarat."Although there are no plans to include Clunes in the rail plan, the town will still have a bus service."Of course V/Line coach services will still serve the residents of Clunes, allowing them to travel to Maryborough and Ballarat," he said. But according to some residents the bus service is not adequate.Long-time Clunes resident Kristy Hill relies on public transport."There is one bus leaving Clunes at 9am."At this time I am still at the kinder dropping my youngest off, and I miss that one bus. "During school holidays my children spent two weeks at home, unable to do anything. "If we had a train stop here we would be able to be taken directly to Ballarat station and catch another train to Melbourne or Geelong," Ms Hill said. She asked why the train won't stop when there was already a train station in town. "I know for a fact there has been interest in the past in the train station being refurbished."With the idea that a train will be good for jobs and tourism, other residents are asking similar questions.
