HE'S been friends with US President Barack Obama for more than 20 years. And, since September last year, he's been the the president's man in Australia. So who better to ask about the possibility of a presidential visit to Ballarat than US Ambassador Jeffrey Bleich. Mr Bleich made his first official visit to the city yesterday. Accompanied by US Consul General to Melbourne Michael Thurston, the ambassador met with Ballarat Mayor Judy Verlin and city council representatives before touring Sovereign Hill and the University of Ballarat. But it appears Ballarat is not on the presidential radar.President Obama had been due to visit Australia last month, but cancelled to sign off on his landmark healthcare bill. The visit has been re-scheduled for June.Mr Bleich said there were too many places he would like the president to see in Australia.
