Oil slick causes slippery situations

POLICE were called to supervise the scene of a large oil slick in Magpie St yesterday afternoon.

A concerned resident contacted police about 4.20pm to report the slick that stretched from the intersection of Magpie and Gladstone streets to Cobden St.

Ballarat Police Acting Sergeant Shaun Martin said it was likely an unsuspecting truck or bus driver may have dropped oil or diesel fuel while driving.

"I came around here at 40kmh and the back of the car slid out."

The Ballarat City Council was called to clean up the spill.

Meanwhile, a man aged between 35 and 45 was taken to Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital with shoulder pain after falling from his motorbike yesterday.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said the rider had swerved to miss a car on Creswick Rd, Mt Rowan, when the accident happened.

Three cheers for the Ballarat City Council. A rapid response indeed that prevented a major accident from occurring. Good job boys!
