ALFREDTON'S new refuse transfer station should get the green light at tomorrow night's Ballarat City Council meeting.
Council's planning and development department has recommended a permit be granted for a transfer station on industrial land in Michaels Dve.
The tip will handle about 30,000 tonnes of waste per year, mainly from commercial sites.
Types of materials handled will include construction and development waste, green waste and tyres.
If given the nod, the tip will operate from Monday to Saturday, with all waste being transferred to a Stawell landfill site within 24 hours.
The building plans include a transfer station, four sorting bins, a weighbridge, gatehouse and an administration building.
However, 13 objections were received to the Statewide Waste proposal, mainly based on smell, increased traffic, wind-blown rubbish, after-hours dumping of rubbish, unsightly physical infrastructure, inadequate on-site parking,
rats and inadequate turning circles for trucks.
In its report, the planning and development department says the facility "has been designed to minimise any adverse impact both on- and off-site".
"It is, however, considered appropriate to include a condition of permit requiring the construction of a two-metre wire fence to the south western and north western `up' and `down' ramps," the report says.
