EUREKA Street Ballarat East is emerging as the latest black spot on the city’s roads after a third crash in just over 24 hours.
Last night, a 68-year-old woman was taken to the Ballarat Base Hospital with suspected chest injuries after the car in which she was a passenger collided with an oncoming vehicle near the intersection with King Street South.
The women was a passenger in a Holden utility, driven by a 42-year-old man who was not injured in the accident.
The crash occurred as a Ford sedan, driven by a 23-year-old woman, made a right turn into King Street South.
Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene, and the female driver was taken home in a taxi.
On Wednesday a driver and a three-year-old girl were treated in hospital following a two-car collision at the same intersection.
Another crash happened at the intersection of Eureka and Otway streets on Wednesday morning.
Ballarat Police Sergeant Adam Grant said last night’s accident was concerning. “It is alleged (the driver of the sedan) has turned in front of the ute as it was coming along Eureka Street.
“People have to slow down and take care when they’re behind the wheel because every accident is very concerning to the community,” Sgt Grant said.
Residents who witnessed last night’s accident called on authorities to improve the intersection to prevent further injuries.
