Road plan back on the table

06 Jul, 2009 12:57 AM
PLANS for a controversial Delacombe road link will return to the Ballarat City Council later this month.

A decision on whether to approve the Delacombe Connect project was deferred by council at ea meeting in April.

The plan would see a road link created between Aminya Avenue and Leawarra Crescent, allowing direct vehicle access for Leawarra Crescent residents to schools and other facilities in the suburb.

A motion was passed at the April meeting erequiring more time for resident consultation and to present a range of alternatives for public comment.

Last week, a meeting for concerned residents was hosted by Ballarat City Council, the Delacombe Neighbourhood Renewal committee and other State Government departments at the Doug Dean Stadium.

About 40 residents were invited to the meeting which was run by Department of Planning and Community Development facilitator Keith Jackson and attended by five Ballarat City Councillors.

Council sustainability director Ian Rossiter said issues covered at the meeting included the effect of the proposal on property values and potential traffic volumes.

He said an officer's report would be prepared and the matter was likely to go before a council meeting on July 22.

Aminya Ave resident Robert Watson, who was at the meeting, said no other ntsaother nteoptions had been presented.

"Why couldn't there be pedestrian access or a road put through at another point in Leawarra Crescent?" Mr Watson said.

Leawarra Crescent resident Pam Lysaght said if approved, the project would make a huge difference to time and safety.

"It's a safe way for our kids to get to schools, the milk bar and the stadium," Ms Lysaght said.
