South Street vocal competitions begin

06 Aug, 2011 12:17 AM
BALLARAT has been filled with the most beautiful music, as the Royal South Street Classical Vocal competition got under way this week.

Three days of classical singing filled the Diocesan Centre, with competitors coming from around the state to take part in the 120th Royal South Street Society competitions.

Section adjudicator for the competition was Kathryn Saddler, with local singers being joined by competitors from Horsham, Melbourne, Mildura and Swan Hill.

Chairman Juanita Baldock said the standard of this year’s vocal competitions was very high.

“The musical theatre section remains the most popular section with the competitors and audience, and is a very entertaining event.

“The number of entrants in the 16 to 19 year section is very healthy, but we do want to encourage the younger singing students out there to think about participating and having a lot of fun along the way,” she said.
